The [community] churches will continue to perform the appointed services [exclusively with the priest(s) and chanter(s)], however the Faithful should pray from their homes and participate in these services through Internet broadcasts and multimedia.

Therefore, beginning immediately and until we receive a directive from the Archdiocese to, once again, make them available to corporate worship, all scheduled liturgical services of Saint Sophia Cathedral are hereby closed to the Faithful, and will be exclusively celebrated by the clergy and chanters on behalf of the Faithful.
Furthermore, we are working as fast as we can to bring our liturgical services online, so that you, the Saint Sophia Faithful, may join your clergy and chanters in prayer from your homes through the Internet. Please look for our announcement that will provide the necessary instruction, online links, etc.
And please remember, now more than ever, that while we presently find ourselves in an apparent condition of separation, ultimately nothing can separate us, the members of the Mystical Body of Christ, “broken yet not divided” (Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom), from one another. For truly, “[even] the gates of hell shall not prevail against [us].” Matthew 16:18

ARCHBISHOP ELPIDOPHOROS ANNOUNCES FURTHER MEASURES
TO PROTECT THE FAITHFUL
RESPONDING TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
New York, NY – His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America announces today measures to protect the health of the Greek Orthodox Flock of America, and the health of the wider public. These decisions are being taken in light of the recommendations of Federal, State, and City officials and agencies, including the CDC.
Beginning March 17, the Archdiocesan Headquarters in New York City (which is also the residence of the Archbishop) will close, and all employees will work from their homes. The Archdiocese possesses a system of videoconferencing and virtual connectivity, that will allow for the work of the Church to proceed in good order.
The Archbishop, out of an abundance of caution for the health of his flock and the public, and especially because New York City has become a “hot zone” of the Covid-19 pandemic, is canceling his public schedule effective immediately. In addition, all scheduled ordinations will be restricted to family members only.
The Churches will continue to perform the appointed services, however the Faithful should pray from their homes and participate in these services through Internet broadcasts and multimedia. Clergy will continue to make visitations for those in need of sacramental and pastoral care.
Commenting on these measures, Archbishop Elpidophoros said:
“As Christians, we must take responsibility for the well-being of others. We can be united in the spirit even as we are apart in the body. In fact, protecting the health of those around us is a powerful witness to our faith, that we place the good of others above our own. With our faith in God, we can overcome these present difficulties, using the rational, scientific knowledge that we possess through our God-given intelligence.
“As your shepherd, I will be ever-vigilant for the welfare of our Archdiocese, praying in the Chapel of Saint Paul every day for all of you, for our Nation, and for the world. Above all, I will offer the Holy and Divine Liturgy for the life of each and every one of you. May the Lord keep us all in health and safety until these challenges have passed.”

Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Ελπιδοφόρος ανακοίνωσε επιπλέον μέτρα για την
προστασία των πιστών εξαιτίας της πανδημίας του Κορωνοϊού
ΝΕΑ ΥΟΡΚΗ – Ο Σεβασμιώτατος Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αμερικής κ. Ελπιδοφόρος ανακοίνωσε μέτρα για την προστασία της υγείας του ποιμνίου στην Αμερική αλλά και της ευρύτερης δημόσιας υγείας. Οι αποφάσεις αυτές λήφθηκαν με βάση τις οδηγίες των Ομοσπονδιακών, Πολιτειακών και Δημοτικών αρχών συμπεριλαμβανομένου του Κέντρου Ελέγχου Νοσημάτων (CDC).
Από τις 17 Μαρτίου, τα γραφεία της Αρχιεπισκοπής στη Νέα Υόρκη, όπου είναι και η κατοικία του Αρχιεπισκόπου, θα παραμείνουν κλειστά και όλοι οι υπάλληλοι θα εργάζονται από το σπίτι τους. Η Αρχιεπισκοπή έθεσε σε λειτουργία το σύστημα τηλεδιάσκεψης και απομακρυσμένης διασύνδεσης, το οποίο θα επιτρέψει την, κατά το δυνατόν, αδιατάρακτη καλή λειτουργία των δραστηριοτήτων της Εκκλησίας.
Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος με ανύστακτο ενδιαφέρον για την υγεία τόσο του ποιμνίου της Αρχιεπισκοπής, αλλά και για την ευρύτερη δημόσια υγεία, ειδικά επειδή η πόλη της Νέας Υόρκης βρίσκεται στο επίκεντρο της πανδημίας του κορωνοϊού, ακυρώνει άμεσα όλες τις δημόσιες δραστηριότητές του. Επιπλέον, όλες οι προγραμματισμένες χειροτονίες θα πραγματοποιηθούν σε εξαιρετικά στενό οικογενειακό κύκλο.
Οι ενορίες θα συνεχίσουν τις ακολουθίες με τον ιερέα και τον ιεροψάλτη, αλλά οι πιστοί θα πρέπει να προσεύχονται από το σπίτι και να μετέχουν στις ακολουθίες μόνο μέσω της τηλεόρασης ή του διαδικτύου. Οι κληρικοί θα συνεχίσουν τις επισκέψεις κατ᾽ οίκον για αυτούς που έχουν ανάγκη ποιμαντικής και μυστηριακής φροντίδας.
Σχολιάζοντας τα μέτρα, ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Ελπιδοφόρος είπε:
«Ως Χριστιανοί, πρέπει να είμαστε υπεύθυνοι για την υγεία των άλλων. Μπορούμε να είμαστε πνευματικά ενωμένοι έστω κι αν είμαστε απομακρυσμένοι εν σώματι. Στην πραγματικότητα, η προστασία της υγείας του πλησίον μας είναι μία μαρτυρία της πίστης μας, διότι θέτουμε το καλό του άλλου πάνω από το δικό μας. Με την πίστη στο Θεό μπορούμε να ξεπεράσουμε την παρούσα δυσκολία, στηριζόμενοι στη λογική και στην επιστημονική γνώση, γνωρίσματα της δοσμένης από το Θεό νοημοσύνης μας.
Ως ποιμένας σας θα είμαι πάντα άγρυπνος και θα προσεύχομαι καθημερινά στο Παρεκκλήσιο του Αγ. Παύλου της Αρχιεπισκοπής για κάθε έναν από εσάς, για το έθνος μας και για τον κόσμο. Πάνω από όλα όμως, σε κάθε Θ. Λειτουργία θα εύχομαι υπέρ της υγείας καθενός από εσάς. Ας παρακαλέσουμε το Θεό όλοι μαζί, να μας δίνει υγεία, υπομονή και ασφάλεια μέχρι να παρέλθει και αυτή η τρομερή δοκιμασία».
