Saint Sophia Festival Dance

Saint Sophia is currently assembling a dance program for the Saint Sophia community. At the young adult level, we are organizing a group where members can share their past dance experience, learn new dances and meet new people, and learn more about Greek culture. In the meantime, please visit http://byzantio.org for more information.

We are also organizing a youth program in conjunction with our Greek Language & Culture School, for children ages 5 and up. Our goal is to have a few different groups, divided by age and showcasing the variety of dances that are a part of Greece’s folk dance culture.

Our hope is for this dance program to serve as an opportunity to give back to the community, mentor its youth, and provide a creative outlet for its members.

If you are interested in taking part in any of these initiatives, please contact us at office@saintsophiadc.com.

“The Byzantio Dance & Cultural Arts Program is dedicated to promoting, encouraging, and perpetuating Greek heritage and culture through folk dance, art, music, and song.”

Based in the Greater Metropolitan DC area and affiliated with the St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Fall Church, VA, Byzantio teaches its participants the art and history of Greek folk dance, song, music, and costume as well as prepare them for opportunities to share and perform to the local community and beyond.

The Saint Sophia Greek Festival is hosted at the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Washington, DC. Growing attendance in recent years is through word of mouth, so grab your friends, family, coworkers and neighbors, and come experience Greece this spring. This weekend, you can taste the flavors of Greece with our authentic food, try your foot at Greek dancing, see our lively entertainment, shop in the Marketplace, and tour the beautiful church. Attractions for the kids round out a great time for the whole family. We’ll see you at the festival — OPA!!

Byzantio will be dancing at 6 PM on May 14 and 15th.
