Fellowship – Creating opportunities for greater interaction among members of the parish.

Membership Meetings

Monthly meetings provide an opportunity enjoy a speaker or other presentation, socialize with old friends and new, and learn about current or planned programs that you may want to participate in.

Good Company: Kali Parea

Since October 2009, this program has been open to the Cathedral Community at large as an opportunity to come together for fellowship and interaction. Programs consist of a luncheon followed by speakers on a wide range of topics or other planned activity. See the Monthly Schedule for specific dates, times and topics.

Holiday Visits

Prior to Easter and Christmas, Philoptochos representatives accompany Cathedral clergy on visits to parishioners who are homebound or in managed care.  The parishioner is offered communion and given religious and seasonal gifts. If you know of anyone who wishes a visit, please have them or a family member call the Cathedral Office, 202-333-4730 with the individual’s name and contact information.

Golden Age Luncheon

In early December, Philoptochos sponsors a festive holiday luncheon for parish seniors.  In lieu of payment for the luncheon, attendees are asked to offer donations for one or more of the designated Philoptochos Christmas Charities.

Feast Day of Our Patron Saints

On the Sunday in November nearest the Feast Day of our Patron Saints Cosmas and Damianos, we sponsor an artoclasia in their honor and host a reception for all worshippers after Liturgy.

Lenten Activities

On the first day of Lent (Clean Monday or Kathara Deftera), we sponsor a Lenten Retreat featuring a special speaker or program and followed by a lunch of Lenten fare.  Throughout Lent, we sponsor receptions following the Friday evening Hairetismoi services. We also support the making of palm crosses for Palm Sunday and the preparation of flowers for the Holy Friday Epitaphio.
